Job Title: Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of ESL/Bilingual Education
Department: Education & Psychology

Status: Active

The University of Texas at Tyler invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor rank specializing in the area of English Speakers of other Languages/Bilingual Education starting Fall 2016. We are particularly interested in candidates who have demonstrated expertise in (a) ESL/Bilingual instruction for students, including those who are culturally, economically, and  linguistically diverse students, (b) teaching blended or online classes as well as face-to-face courses, and (c) a commitment to working in local schools. This is a full time position with a nine-month academic year appointment in the education program in the School of Education within the College of Education and Psychology at the University of Texas at Tyler. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is contingent upon funding by the university.

Responsibilities for the position include (a) teaching graduate and undergraduate ESL/Bilingual education courses, (b) advising and  mentoring graduate students, (c) pursuing an active scholarly research agenda, (d) actively supporting ESL/Bilingual instruction in local schools, (e) grant activities, and (f) contributing to the university, the Tyler community, and the profession through service and outreach activities.

Qualifications for the position include (a) an earned a doctorate in ESL/bilingual education or a closely related field by September 1, 2016, (b) a minimum of three years of teaching experience in diverse PreK-12 school settings, and (c) evidence of university teaching and research activity appropriate to rank. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in (a) ESL/bilingual instruction for PreK-12 students, including those who are culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse students, and/or (b) teaching face-to-face, blended or online classes, and (c) a demonstrated ability to conduct a focused and sustained program of research and scholarship.
